Bringing Local Guitarists Out of the Woodwork

  • Our next Guitar Society Meeting is on Monday February 5th, 2024 (first Monday of the month) at Odd Fellows Hall and will begin at 7:15 pm
  • Derek Keller and Colin McAllister are our Featured Artists for February 5thDerek Keller is an award winning composer and performer and Colin McAllister is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Colorado and his performances as a guitarist and conductor have been hailed as ‘sparkling delivered superbly’ (San Francisco Chronicle)😊
  • Isaac Engel will be running the Ensemble Session; the music scores are available (see below) and any one of you are delighted to join in and play.
  • The Open Stage is an opportunity for anyone to play classical guitar music – beginners, intermediate, and advanced!
  • The After School Guitar Program is continuing group lessons and private lessons at Odd Fellows on Monday February 5th at 6:00pm run by Isaac Engel.
  • The second After School Guitar Program is on Monday February 19th at 6:00pm run by Jacob Ripley, and he also provides The Community Beginning Lesson for people of all ages from 7:00pm to 7:30pm at Odd Fellow.
  • Also there’s an additional Guitar Event in Corvallis at Whiteside Theatre February 3rd 7:00pm (not run by Corvallis Guitar Society).

Featured Artist Derek Keller and Colin McAllister

Since sparking a musical partnership in 1998 at the University of California, San Diego, Colin McAllister and Derek Keller have performed across the United States and Mexico, presenting eclectic programs original compositions as well as their own arrangements of pieces from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries. They have been featured on notable concerts series, such as the SoundOn Festival of Modern Music (San Diego, CA), the Festival of New American Music (Sacramento, CA), Festival Hispanoamericano de la Guitarra (Tijuana, MX), and San Francisco sfSound, among many others.

Open Guitar Ensemble

Isaac Engel is running the Open Guitar Ensemble in which anyone is welcome to participate. When you look at the pieces, decide which part you wish to play, and maybe let Isaac know ahead of time – his email is [email protected] , and bring the music with you to the Guitar Society meeting.

Here are the three pieces of music for the ensemble session:

IMPORTANT FOR ENSEMBLE: All the three pieces for guitar ensemble are not available for free so the Corvallis Guitar Society is buying the pieces. Therefore email [email protected] to receive the ensemble scores and choose a part to play, and you won’t have to pay 😊

Open Stage
The Open Stage at the Corvallis Guitar Society monthly meeting is available for anyone to play their own music featuring beginner, intermediate, and advanced 😊

Jacob Ripley and Isaac Engel are continuing the After School Guitar Program free and open to the public. Focusing on mid and high school students, the goal is to raise their awareness and understanding of the guitar instrument by featuring group lessons, private lessons and ensemble music.
Jacob also provides Community Beginning Lesson for people of all ages, so anyone can come for this lesson.
Feel free to come along and meet up with Jacob and Isaac at their sessions if you are interested, and if you don’t have a guitar, we can lend you one!
