Corvallis Guitar Society Events Currently on Hold

In order to help protect the community from the spread of Corona Virus (Covid 19) we have cancelled all upcoming Guitar Society concerts and events through to the end of April. Towards the end of April we will reconsider events we have planned for May and beyond based on the recommendations from local authorities and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Given the cancellation of so many events, we all have a chance to pick up our guitars, practice, and play new material. Given full time professional musicians are seeing all their concerts and events cancelled, if you would like to hook up online with them and take a lesson & learn new music, then I am sure they would be happy to hear from you. Local classical guitar maestro Cameron O’Connor, our Artistic Director, Berto Boyd, and our most recent fabulous featured artist Hilary Field are great composers and teachers with whom you are likely familiar, and they would be happy to hear from you

The following Guitar Society concerts and events are CANCELLED:

  • Guitar Society Meeting Monday April 6th 2020 7:30-9:30PM
    • Venue: Odd Fellows Hall, Corvallis
  • Third Winter Guitar Series Concert – Berto Boyd and Ben Woodman Saturday March 21st 2020 3 – 4pm
    • Venue: Corvallis-Benton County Library
  • International Classical Guitarist Stephanie Jones Friday April 24th 2020, 7 – 9 pm
    • Venue: Odd Fellows Hall, Corvallis

The following Guitar Society Meeting remains scheduled but MAY BE subject to cancellation:

  • Corvallis Guitar Society Meeting Monday May 4th 2020
    • Venue: Odd Fellows Hall, Corvallis
    • Free & Open to the Public

I will update the website and newsletter towards the end of April to let you know the status of our future events, concerts, and activities. In the meantime we wish you all the best over the coming few weeks.
Best Regards

Second Winter Guitar Series Concert – Cameron O’Connor

Saturday January 18th 2020 3 – 4 pm
Venue: Corvallis-Benton County Library
Free & Open to the Public

Dr. Cameron O’Connor runs the guitar program at OSU and we are very lucky to have Cameron, a truly great classical guitarist and composer, to perform concerts for us in this neck of the woods. He is a prizewinner in many international competitions, including the Frances Walton and Tokyo International Guitar Competition and continues to receive awards for performances and compositions in an ongoing basis. His playing has been featured in films, including James Franco’s Don Quixote and Scott Tennant’s instructional classic Pumping Nylon, and his performances have been featured on Seattle’s Classical 98.1 KingFM, Portland All-Classical, American Public Media’s Performance Today, and KPFK’s Global Village.

For this Winter Concert he has a wonderful program lined up for us to enjoy as follows:
Prelude from Lute Suite no. 4                   (J.S. Bach)
So Long                                                     (Cameron O’Connor)
Elsa and Ortrud’s Duet from Lohengrin     (Richard Wagner)
Fantasia in D                                             (Fernando Sor)
Rain in the Old Growth Forest
Perturbation Variations                           (Cameron O’Connor)
Capricho Arabe                                    (Francisco Tarrega)
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence             (Ryuichi Sakamoto)
Sevilla                                                   (Isaac Albeniz)
