October Guitar Society Sessions Starting Oct. 3rd 2022

Summary

  1. Our next Guitar Society Meeting is on Monday October 3rd at Odd Fellows Hall and will begin at 7:15 pm
  2. Dr. Peter Zisa, Famous Classical Guitarist is the featured artist on October 3rd and will include some duet pieces with flutest Gabriela Gimenes
  3. Isaac Engel will be running the Ensemble Session, and the music is available online for any of you who wish to join in and play (see below)
  4. The Open Stage is an opportunity for anyone to play classical guitar music – beginners, intermediate, and advanced!
  5. Zoe Moulton and Isaac Engel are continuing the After School Guitar Program featuring group lessons, private lessons and ensemble at Odd Fellows on October 3rd at 6:00pm, and Monday October 17th at 6:00pm

Times are as follows:
First Monday of the month at Odd Fellows Hall
6:00pm to 7:00pm is the After School Guitar Program (group lesson and ensemble)
7:15pm to 9:15pm is the Corvallis Guitar Society Ensemble, Open Stage, Featured Artists
Third Monday of the Month at Odd Fellows Hall
6:00pm to 6:50pm is the After School Guitar Program group lesson
7:00pm to 7:30pm is the After School Guitar Program private lesson

After School Guitar Program

Zoe Moulton and Isaac Engel are continuing the After School Guitar Program in the Corvallis school district. Focusing on mid and high school students, the goal is to raise their awareness and understanding of the guitar instrument by featuring group lessons, private lessons and ensemble music.

The first monthly session that will be ahead of the Guitar Society Monthly meeting as listed above and will feature a group lesson and ensemble session run by Isaac. The second monthly session run by Zoe on the Third Monday of the month as listed above and will feature group, and private lessons. Feel free to come along and meet up with Zoe and Isaac at their sessions if you are interested, and if you don’t have a guitar, we can lend you one!

Featured Artists Peter Zisa and Gabriela Gimenes:

Peter Zisa, based in West Linn, has performed internationally as a soloist on classical guitar. Over the years, he has enjoyed performing with other musicians, from a variety of backgrounds and styles including the founding member of Thousand Waves (West Meets East performance group: Koto, guitar, flute, and percussion), Russian violinists, the Oregon Guitar Quartet (early years), and with various prominent Portland-based Jazz vocalists as well as instrumentalist.

He’s been actively involved in the Portland music scene for 30 years, is a board member of PGS, the founder and director CDZ Collegium Musica which hosts a concert series for guitar, jazz, and world music. Check him out on the YouTube channel: Peter Joseph Zisa.

Gabriela Gimenes holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from University of North Texas, Master of Music from University of Central Arkansas, and Bachelor of Music from Sao Paulo State University. She has played with Sao Paulo Youth Wind Symphony, Conway Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Academica do Estado de São Paulo, Fiddler on the Roof Production in São Paulo Brazil, as well as flute substitute for Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, USP Symphony Orquestra, and Theatro São Pedro Symphony Orchestra. She is a winner of Arkansas 2004-05 MTNA Competition state division and honorable mention at region division. More details are available on her website: https://www.gabrielagimenes.com/

Currently she is performing with Choro da Alegria, Peter Zisa flute guitar duo, and Sexteto Brasil in Portland, OR and taking a course in Arts Management at Berklee College of Music Online.

Open Guitar Ensemble

Isaac Engel is running the Open Guitar Ensemble in which anyone is welcome to participate.

When you look at the pieces, decide which part you wish to play, let Isaac Engel know as soon as you can – his email is [email protected], and bring the music with you to the Guitar Society meeting.

Open Stage

The Open Stage is available for anyone to play their own music featuring beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Entrance to all the events is open to the public (donations gratefully received). Location:Odd Fellows Hall, 223 SW 2nd St, Corvallis, OR 97333. The entrance is between New Morning Bakery and Sedlaks Boots and Shoes.
