Our inspiring featured artist for this meeting is Portland Oregon’s Jessie McCann. Jesse is an award-winning classical guitarist who made his debut at age 17 on the gulf coast of Mississippi, winning first place in a number of local and regional guitar competitions. In addition to being a top prize solo winner, he has led two award-winning guitar trios and is currently a member of the Oregon Guitar Quartet. Jesse is currently on staff for PSU and PCC’s music faculty.

The October 7th meeting will also include our OPEN GUITAR ENSEMBLE REHEARSAL for the music we will be performing at the Winter Concert on December 14th at the Corvallis-Benton County Library.  The music is posted to the website below: ensemble music scores and parts for guitar society meeting … so check out the scores online, download the parts you would like to play and bring them along to the meeting with your guitar and join in! EVERYONE is welcome and the scores include parts suitable for all levels of playing.

Looking Forward..

Now we have reached the summit for the first half of the year with the wonderful Guitar Festival and the last Society meeting on June 3rd, the Guitar Society will take a break over the summer. We will get back together again on Monday September 9th with our Guitar Society meeting kicking off the Fall series of activities and events. More details will follow regarding the schedule.

In the meantime, we look forward to seeing you on June 3rd at our Guitar Society Meeting, and have a great summer!

The 3rd Annual Corvallis Guitar Festival 2019


All Events Take Place at the 1st Presbyterian Church, Corvallis

We are excited that the 3rd Annual Corvallis Guitar Festival is just around the corner and will provide a bumper crop of talent, entertainment, and participation in the world of classical guitar and ukulele! The three concerts, workshop, lecture and Master Class will all be taking place at the 1st Presbyterian Church on 8th St downtown Corvallis on Saturday May 11th starting at 10:00am in the morning through 9:30pm in the evening.

The concerts feature Ian O’Sullivan, a great Hawaiian classical guitarist and ukulele musician, and Grammy Award winning classical guitarist Bill Kanengiser. Also, in line with our goal to bring local guitarists out of the woodwork, there will be a short concert performed by the Corvallis Guitar Ensemble led by Cameron O’Connor.

Discussion and music performance from the period 1750-1800 when the newly developing early Classical six single string guitar and the traditional five and six course Baroque double string guitar were contemporary. The lecture includes two historical instruments: a 1798 Italian guitar (Fabricatore) and an 1800 Spanish guitar (Benedid).
