• Guitar Society Meeting June 6th 2022 Was Great!

    Our Monthly Meeting at Odd Fellows Hall featured a very good ensemble session led by Isaac Engel, and a great Open Stage session also featuring Isaac and his Fiancé Leah Burleson playing guitar/cello duet.

    Then Cameron O’Connor led the OSU Ensemble Featured Artist Concert, and it was WONDERFUL!

    Thank you everyone for coming, playing, and enjoying the event. We will now take a break over the summer, and our monthly meetings will start up again on Monday September 12th 2022. Look forward to seeing you then.

    • We have Cameron O’Connor’s OSU Ensemble as featured artists on the Guitar Society monthly meeting June 6th
    • Isaac Engle will be running the Ensemble Session, and the music is available here on the website
    • Joaquin Gallegos is a Concert Flamenco Guitarist from Santa Fe New Mexico. He is visiting us on June 6th, and is going to play in the Open Stage session
    • This meeting will start at 7:00pm June 6th (30 minutes early) to facilitate plenty of people performing!

    Featured Artist: Cameron O’Conner’s OSU Ensemble
    The OSU Guitar Ensemble performs a smorgasbord of music for large and small ensembles, featuring premieres of Cameron O’Connor’s arrangements for guitar orchestra and including excerpts from J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (with vocalist), American and Brazilian folksongs, and a Queen medley. Music for guitar duo, trio, and quartet is also featured (music ranging from Fernando Sor to Joe Hisaishi’s Japanese film soundtracks). There’s something for everyone in this fantastically diverse program! 

    Open Stage
    The Open Stage is available for anyone to play their own music featuring beginner, intermediate, and advanced. It is also going to include a special guest artist Joaquin Gallegos! Joaquin is a Concert Flamenco Guitarist from Santa Fe New Mexico, and he has concerts in Seattle before coming down and checking out our Society meeting.     Isaac Engle is running the Open Guitar Ensemble in which anyone is welcome to participate.

    Featured Artist Brandon Azbill
    Brandon Azbill is an award-winning classical guitarist, teacher & composer.

    In Spring of 2021, Brandon completed a Master of Science in Music with an emphasis on somatic education for guitarists (Body Mapping) at Portland State University and in 2019 he completed a Bachelor of Music in Classical Guitar Performance at PSU. Some of his most influential teacher’s include Jesse McCann, Cameron O’Connor, Rich Hurdle, and Bryan Johanson. Brandon actively shares his passion for music with others through education and performance of many musical styles.

    Berto Boyd Solo Guitar Show at the Old World Deli, Corvallis
    Our Artistic Director Berto Boyd is doing a concert this week. He is a wonderful flamenco guitarist, and is a great classical musician, and will be performing from 7pm to 9pm.

    Diego Amador Jr. is a virtuoso Guitarist and Singer from Seville where he was born into a family considered “Flamenco royalty.”

    Savannah Fuentes, is a stunning dancer born in Seattle to parents of Puerto Rican and Irish ancestry. Berto caught their performance in Portland recently and gave them rave reviews!

    Featured Artist Ryan Walsh
    After his graduation at the University of Oregon, Ryan decided to follow the call of his passion and went to Spain, the birthplace of the guitar. He met up with Ricardo Gallen, one of the world’s greatest, living classical guitarist, and this set him upon a path that led to Seville’s renowned Conservatorio Superior, and the unsurpassed tutelage of Paco Cantón.

    His repertoire is exceptionally wide and varied, and includes Spanish and South American composers, such as Albéniz, Tárrega, Granados, Sor, Villa-Lobos, Barrios, and Lauro, also more contemporary composers such as Roland Dyens and Leo Brouwer. Other notable composers include, J.S. Bach, Scarlatti, Eric Satie, Johann Mertz, Joaquin Malats, Stanley Meyers, Mozart, Aguado, and several of his own pieces!
