Thank you everyone for coming, playing, and enjoying the events so far this year. After our activities in June, we will be taking a break as usual in July and August from Odd Fellows, Corvallis.
However, in addition this year, Isaac Engel has established two Classical Guitar Society events, one in July and one in August in Salem to continue providing Guitar Ensemble Sessions, and Open Stage.
Isaac Engel Classical Guitar Society Events in July and August in Salem. You are invited in July and August to enjoy the Classical Guitar Social, a community gathering of classical guitarists in Salem from surrounding areas. Event Friday July 14th – This will be a focused playing session, with an ensemble piece, a break for snacks, open stage, and finishing with some time for visiting. Here’s the schedule for one hour: 11:00 Entry 11:05 Ensemble rehearsal and practices 11:15 Ensemble performance 11:25 break 11:35 Open stage.
Event Friday August 18th -This will be an extended session (two hours) to allow a composition lab to occur as part of the meeting. Anyone is invited to bring an original guitar or guitar ensemble composition to this session to be read and performed! The session will begin with an ensemble piece. The break and snacks time will be extended to 30 or 40 minutes of time for interested players to select new scores to learn and perform in the open stage portion.
Corvallis Guitar Society Monthly Events in Corvallis Re-Start in September After two months off, our first monthly meeting will start up at Odd Fellows on Monday September 11th, 2022, beginning at 7:15pm. That will feature our Guitar Ensemble session, Open Stage, and a Featured Artist performance.
The first After School Guitar Program at Odd Fellows will re-open on Monday September 11th at 6:00pm run by Isaac Engel.
The second After School Guitar Program will be on Monday September 18th at 6:00pm run by Zoe Moulton, and she provides The Community Beginning Lesson for people of all ages from 7:00pm to 7:30pm at Odd Fellows.
Festival in November 2023 We will be having a two-day Festival on November 10th and 11th with two Concerts, Ensemble, Masterclasses, and free open Workshop Sessions. The location is First Congregational United Church of Christ, and the timing for visitors will be: Friday November 10th 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Saturday November 11th 10:00 am – 9:00 pm Details will be provided in August.

The OSU Guitar Ensemble led by Cameron O’Connor are our great Featured Artists for June 5th who will be performing both as a full ensemble, and as smaller breakout groups starting at 8:15pm and playing for one hour!

Featured Artist George England
A native of Northern California, George Benton England resides in New York City where he performs and teaches classical and modern guitar, and theory. His concerts feature a balance of old and new repertoire, spanning several style periods and highlight rare works as well as established favourites. George usually includes one or two works on a program that are best described as “avante garde” and challenge the mainstream views of classical music. Most of the work he performs comes from composers like Bach, Villa-Lobos, Fernando Sor, Mozart, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Antonio Lauro, among many others, and sometimes performs on theorbo (a very long 17th century lute with 14 strings!) in addition to modern guitar and a 19th century guitar. It will be great to listen to George performing for us!

Featured Artists Isaac Engel and Leah Burleson
Isaac Engel is a classical guitarist from Oregon, currently active as a teacher, performer, and composer. At fifteen, he fell in love with the sound of the Spanish guitar and has pursued his passion to play guitar ever since. He plays Latin, Spanish, modern, and baroque music and his dream is to help people experience the beauties and the possibilities of life. Recent highlights include presenting the Great Music of the Guitar concert in Salem, performing in the McNary Theatre production of Mary Poppins, teaching and accompanying at the Corban Theatre Camp, and playing at regional wineries and corporate events. The Engel Duo was first formed as the Engel – Burleson duo between classical guitarist Isaac Engel and cellist Leah Burleson and changed its name upon their recent marriage! Since meeting in college, they have played an unusual mix of original music written by Isaac, classical arrangements, and the very few classical pieces written for the unique instrumentation. They perform regularly for community spaces most recently at the Four Graces Winery, Salem Center 50+, and the Englewood Forest Festival in Salem. Featured Artist Yuri Liberzon Born in Novosibirsk, Russia and raised in Israel. Classical guitarist Yuri Liberzon has been recognized for his impressive technical ability and musicality and he has given countless number of concerts across the United States plus multiple media appearances.
Yuri Liberzon has collaborated and performed in concerts with many renown musicians including guitarists Grisha Goryachev, Patrick O’Connell, Piotr Pakhomkin and flutist Josué Casillas. Orchestra performanceswithDiablo Symphony Orchestra and Tahoe Symphony Orchestra. Chamber music with Gold Coast Chamber Players, Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra and Quartet San Francisco.

Yuri has transcribed music of Domenico Scarlatti and Johann Sebastian Bach for guitar. His transcriptions have been published in Sound Board magazine and are distributed in Europe by Bergmann Edition.
Yuri is an avid teacher. He has prepared students admitted into some of the most prestigious music schools: Juilliard Pre-College, Peabody Conservatory and San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Yuri has received Bachelor of Music degree and Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory as well as Master of Music degree from Yale University. He was awarded full scholarships from both Peabody and Yale where he studied with two of the world leading guitar masters: Manuel Barrueco and Benjamin Verdery.
