    Zoe Moulton and Isaac Engel are continuing the After School Guitar Program in the Corvallis school district. Focusing on middle and high school students, the goal is to raise their awareness and understanding of the guitar instrument by featuring group lessons, private lessons, and ensemble music.

    Zoe has introduced Community Beginning Lesson for people of all ages, so anyone can come for this lesson.

    Both the After School Guitar Program and the Community Beginning Lesson are FREE and open to the public.

    Featured Artist João Kouyoumdjian

    João Kouyoumdjian is a Brazilian born classical guitarist of mixed Brazilian and Armenian ethnic heritage. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School and the University of São Paulo, where he studied under Sharon Isbin and Edelton Gloeden.

    An award-winning artist in his homeland, João has appeared on stages in the United States, Brazil, Europe and Africa.

    João Kouyoumdjian has been featured on numerous nationally televised concert series in Brazil, and he premiered new works by Brazilian composers Ricardo Calderoni and Raimundo Penaforte at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall at the behest of the Consulate General of Brazil in New York. This inspired his debut album Surfboard: Solo Guitar Works from Brazil (Pomegranate Music, 2013). His subsequent album – Kouyoumdjian Plays Bach: New Transcriptions for Guitar (Pomegranate Music, 2015) – was described as a “masterful presentation of premium-grade Bach” by Classical Guitar Magazine (US) and was recommended by Brazil’s most popular weekly magazine VEJA

    Featured Artists Peter Zisa and Gabriela Gimenes:

    Peter Zisa, based in West Linn, has performed internationally as a soloist on classical guitar. Over the years, he has enjoyed performing with other musicians, from a variety of backgrounds and styles including the founding member of Thousand Waves (West Meets East performance group: Koto, guitar, flute, and percussion), Russian violinists, the Oregon Guitar Quartet (early years), and with various prominent Portland-based Jazz vocalists as well as instrumentalist.

    He’s been actively involved in the Portland music scene for 30 years, is a board member of PGS, the founder and director CDZ Collegium Musica which hosts a concert series for guitar, jazz, and world music. Check him out on the YouTube channel: Peter Joseph Zisa.

    Gabriela Gimenes holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from University of North Texas, Master of Music from University of Central Arkansas, and Bachelor of Music from Sao Paulo State University. She has played with Sao Paulo Youth Wind Symphony, Conway Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Academica do Estado de São Paulo, Fiddler on the Roof Production in São Paulo Brazil, as well as flute substitute for Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, USP Symphony Orquestra, and Theatro São Pedro Symphony Orchestra. She is a winner of Arkansas 2004-05 MTNA Competition state division and honorable mention at region division. More details are available on her website: https://www.gabrielagimenes.com/

    Currently she is performing with Choro da Alegria, Peter Zisa flute guitar duo, and Sexteto Brasil in Portland, OR and taking a course in Arts Management at Berklee College of Music Online.

    Featured Artists Berto Boyd and Grant Ruiz

    Berto Boyd, our Artistic Director, studied in Spain and performed throughout the United States with some of the world’s finest Flamenco, Classical and Jazz artists. He is one of the rare and few Americans who has dedicated his musical dreams to mastering the art of the Spanish guitar and composing original Flamenco music, and I think he is a great solo, ensemble, and concert guitarist! He currently resides in Portland, Oregon where he is also Musical Director for Flamenco Pacifico, and Musical Director of Arte y Pasion (San Antonio, Texas).

    Grant Ruiz has played classical guitar since he was 10 years old and, after studying flamenco in Spain and with several renowned artists in the U.S., he became an active performer and teacher in Southern Oregon. He performs with Berto in the wonderful Flamenco Pacifico. He has also performed in several productions at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and has been a member of  Amor Flamenco, Alba Flamenca and currently Duo Flamenco with percussionist Terry Longshore, and is on the Board of Directors for the Jefferson Classical Guitar Society.

  • Guitar Society Meeting June 6th 2022 Was Great!

    Our Monthly Meeting at Odd Fellows Hall featured a very good ensemble session led by Isaac Engel, and a great Open Stage session also featuring Isaac and his Fiancé Leah Burleson playing guitar/cello duet.

    Then Cameron O’Connor led the OSU Ensemble Featured Artist Concert, and it was WONDERFUL!

    Thank you everyone for coming, playing, and enjoying the event. We will now take a break over the summer, and our monthly meetings will start up again on Monday September 12th 2022. Look forward to seeing you then.
