Dear Friends of the Corvallis Guitar Society,
Thank you to those who turned out for the last meeting of the Guitar Society on March 7th. We had a lot of fun entertaining ourselves with some good ensemble pieces (I detect some real progress here) and a solid open stage session. Anne echoed the strains of the ensemble’s rendition of Santa Lucia by performing it beautifully on the smallest guitar we have seen to date 🙂
And it was good to welcome Ken to his first appearance in the open stage section performing Lagrima and Romanza. Thank you Ken!
This coming Monday March 21st and Monday March 28th will be the next two rehearsals of the Corvallis Guitar Orchestra and Ensemble. This program was announced last month with a view to staging a concert towards the end of the year. If you are interested in participating, further information including some of the music we are working on is available on the Society website. https://corvallisguitarsociety.org/announcing-corvallis-guitar-society-guitar-orchestra-and-ensemble/
Please note that tickets are now on sale at the Majestic Theatre for “The Spanish Guitar: from the Streets to the Concert Stage” presented by the Corvallis Guitar Society at 7:30pm on Friday April 22nd and Saturday April 23rd. Part concert, part lecture and demonstration, this event will review the emergence of the guitar as one of the world’s premier instruments and trace its journey from folk instrument to the greatest concert halls in the world. Check out the trailer on the Majestic Theater Facebook page:

The next Corvallis Guitar Society meeting will take place as usual on the first Monday of April at Gracewinds Music (third floor , rear entrance) from 7pm to 9pm. I am delighted to say that the featured artists for the evening will be the virtuosic partnership of Grant Ruiz from Ashland together with Corvallis’ own Berto Boyd. These two great guitarists have been working together for some time now and the result is truly wonderful. So please join us for a great evening of music.
As usual we will also have both an ensemble and an open stage session in which everyone is invited to participate. The music for the ensemble session will be posted on the website a week ahead of the meeting as, increasingly, people are wanting to download it and prepare the part they wish to play ahead of time. Parts range from easy to intermediate. For the open stage session just bring your guitar and a smile and take the opportunity to share your music with us. The only guarantee is that you will get a warm round of applause!
