About our Guest Artists

Dr. Connie Sheu is a dynamic guitarist, devoted pedagogue, and ardent advocate of classical guitar. In demand as both a soloist and chamber musician, her playing has been hailed by the New York Sun as “excellent, ruminative… scholarly.” Past performances have brought her to Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, 92nd St, Merkin Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall; venues in Moldova, Italy, Hungary; and across the United States. Dr. Sheu studied at Columbia University, The Juilliard School, and the USC Thornton School of Music. She currently teaches at Pomona College and the Colburn School in Los Angeles.
Classical guitarist, Tal Hurwitz has performed and given master classes at festivals around the world, including the Festival Hispano-American de Guitarra (Mexico), Guitar
Foundation of America (USA), Petrer Guitar Festival (Spain), Forum Guitar Wien (Austria), Guitar Art Festival (Serbia), International Guitar Festival J.K Mertz (Slovakia) and Essonne Guitar Festival (France).
He has performed with such orchestras as the New Russian Symphony Orchestra and the Camerata
Salzburg. In addition, he was awarded top prizes as both a performer and composer in numerous international competitions. World class composers have dedicated works for him, such as; Nikita Koshkin, Daniel Akiva, Wulfin Lieske and Ariel Man.


James Bishop-Edwards has been a performer, teacher, composer and recording artist for over 35 years. He plays not only the rich and varied traditional repertoire, but also his own compositions and contemporary genres as well. James plays historical instruments of the Renaissance and Baroque periods such as the five-course guitar and eight-course lute. He was head of the Guitar Department at Southern Oregon University in Ashland for several years, and previously on the faculty as Guitar Instructor at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo.
Cameron O’Connor’s playing has been described as “stunning and emotive” (Eugene Register-Guard) and “accomplished and soulful” (Portland Magazine). He is a prizewinner in ten international competitions and his performances have been featured in film and on national radio broadcasts. His compositions have won or been a finalist in competitions worldwide. O’Connor was a full scholarship recipient at CSU Northridge, the Juilliard School, and at the USC Thornton School of Music, where he was named the Outstanding Doctoral Graduate of his class. He serves as guitar and music theory faculty at Oregon State University, where he’s premiered some 40 new works for Guitar Ensemble.
