THE 2nd ANNUAL CORVALLIS GUITAR FESTIVAL – WOW!
What a fantastic culmination to the first half of 2018 with the 2nd Annual Corvallis Guitar Festival that took place on Friday June 8th and Saturday June 9th at the First Presbyterian Church, Corvallis!
Festival Design by Jennifer Lommers
A wonderful rendition of the world of classical guitar music in the opening concert by maestro Cameron O’Connor including some of his compositions inspired by his arrival here in the Pacific Northwest.
Our Saturday night audience witnessed a brilliant, jaw dropping, virtuosic flamenco performance by Grisha Goryachev. “An alien with extraordinary talent” according to Paco de Lucia, something to which we all agreed!
The Saturday Master class (free and open to the public) was enjoyed by many folks witnessing four local students performing prepared pieces and receiving guidance and insight from Grisha.
The opening free workshop on Saturday featured famous guitars provided by an anonymous Oregon collector. Cameron performed pieces on all of them and Tom described their historical significance to the audience.
The remaining free workshops on Saturday gave everyone a chance to bring out their guitars, join in, and learn from some of the best guitarists/teachers in the region.
A great raffle resulted in this gentleman winning a Cordoba Classical guitar!
Much delight expressed by the people who witnessed the wonderful performances by our two fantastic concert artists, Cameron and Grisha.

We are fast approaching the exciting summit of 2018 with the pending Guitar Society Meeting on June 4th followed by the 2nd Annual Corvallis Guitar Festival on Friday June 8th and Saturday 9th.
Many of you know Cameron O’Connor who will be opening the festival for us on Friday June 8th and we are all excited to hear his exceptional talent in the world of classical guitar. But should you want to know more about Grisha Goryachev who is the Saturday night concert maestro, I recommend you read Tom Strini’s post on the Corvallis Review which he published after interviewing Grisha. Tom is a great writer and Grisha an extraordinary guitarist with a fascinating history so I highly recommend you check out the collision of these two talents here: https://corvallisreview.blogspot.com/2018/05/corvallis-guitar-festival-grisha.html

We are very pleased to be working with the The Arts Center to present the spring concert on the afternoon of Sunday April 8th at the The Arts Center, downtown Corvallis. Here is a video of them performing Fandango by Boccherini:

Dear Guitar Friends,
I am still smiling after witnessing violist Kimberley Fitch and guitarist James Bishop Edwards performing as one of the best duets I have ever heard in terms of musical tonality, choice of music, (featuring a world premier by Roseburg OR composer Jason Heald), and sheer fun. Thanks to everyone who came out. Details of the next meeting will figure in Vol 2 of this month’s newsletter, but I wanted to highlight some local guitar events that are coming up in the very near future:
OSU Guitar Ensemble Inaugural Performance! Friday, March 16 at 5:30pm Benton Hall room 303 (third floor) FREE!
Dr. Cameron O’Connor directs the OSU Guitar Ensemble in an eclectic performance of large ensemble and duo music by Mozart, Debussy, Ben Folds, and Studio Ghibli.
Premiere Flamenco music & dance ensemble led by Berto Boyd returns to the Majestic to take listeners on a journey through a musical landscape that can be haunting and deeply moving, due in no small part to the spine-tingling duende, or trance-like spirit unleashed by the music. Additionally, this concert will feature special guest artist and dancer Melissa Cruz from the Bay Area.
