The Saturday night concert features the amazing internationally recognized Korean guitarist Jiji Kim. Jiji will also be providing the Masterclass on Saturday morning, November 13th, at the Whiteside Theatre.

Applauded by the Calgary Herald as “…talented, sensitive…brilliant,” Jiji is an adventurous artist on both acoustic and electric guitar, playing an extensive range of music from traditional and contemporary classical music to free improvisation. Her impeccable musicianship combined with compelling stage presence and fascinating repertoire earned the Korean guitarist First Prize at the 2016 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. As a major highlight of her 2019-20 season, Jiji performed Hillary Purrington’s concerto Harp of Nerves at Zankel Hall of Carnegie Hall with the American Composers Orchestra and conductor George Menahan.

The Friday night concert features our wonderful local maestro, Cameron O’Connor.

Award-winning and acclaimed as “stunning and emotive” (Eugene Register-Guard), Cameron is a prizewinner in many international competitions, including the Frances Walton and Tokyo International Guitar Competition. His playing has been featured in films, including James Franco’s Don Quixote and Scott Tennant’s instructional classic Pumping Nylon, and his performances have been featured on Seattle’s Classical 98.1 KingFM. As a composer, O’Connor’s Three Northwestern Scenes was chosen for a performance at the 21st Century Guitar Conference in Ottawa, Canada, and these will be included in the Friday night concert!
