  • Corvallis Guitar Society Meetings Re-Opening September 13th, 2021

    Time: 7:30 – 9:30pm
    Venue: Odd Fellows Hall, Corvallis
    Free & Open to the Public

    Restrictions on Covid-19 have been put aside starting July 1st and, as a result, we are excited to re-open the Guitar Society activities here in Corvallis. The first meeting on September the 13th is providing everyone the opportunity to bring their guitars and play! We are going to focus on the Open Guitar Ensemble in which anyone is welcome to participate, and the Open Stage for anyone to play their own music. The Featured Artist session is temporarily on hold, but we intend to re-invite great concert guitarists in the not-too-distant future.

    Please go ahead and add the time and date of our upcoming Monthly Meeting in your calendar!

    AGENDA MONDAY September 13th, 2021
    7:30 – 7:35 pm Welcome
    7:35 – 8:35 pm Open Guitar Ensemble: See below for the Guitar Ensemble music – everyone is welcome!
    8:35 – 8:45 pm BREAK and Refreshments
    8:45 – 9:30 pm Open Stage: beginners, intermediates, and advanced guitarists are all welcome to come and share their music with us

    Entrance is FREE and open to the public (donations gratefully received). Location: Odd Fellows Hall, 223 SW 2nd St, Corvallis, OR 97333. The entrance is between New Morning Bakery and Sedlaks Boots and Shoes.

    If you have had your vaccines for Covid-19, masks are not required. If you have not had your vaccines, then consider wearing a mask.

    When you look at the pieces, decide which part you wish play, and bring the music with you to the Guitar Society meeting.

  • Guitar Society Meeting Monday March 2nd 2020

    Featuring Classical Guitarist Hilary Field

    We are honored to welcome Hilary as our featured artist for the Corvallis Guitar Society! As an international performing and recording artist, Hilary Field has garnered praise for her dynamic virtuosity, her sensitive musicianship, and for the emotional depth she brings to the heart of classical guitar music. Hilary is a past winner of the Northwest Young Artist Series Competition and was the first guitarist to win the Frances Walton Soloist Competition. She has released several award winning CDs including her debut recording, Music of Spain and Latin America, which was a winner for Classical Album of the Year by the National Association of Independent Record Distributors. Hilary was recently sponsored by the US Embassy to perform and tour in South America, and has been a featured performer in multiple international guitar festivals around the world. Hilary has held faculty positions as the head of the Guitar department at Seattle Pacific University and Pacific Lutheran University in Washington State.

    Featuring George Benton England: “New Histories Program” for nineteenth century and modern guitars

    Originally of Northern California, George England currently resides in New York City where he performs and teaches guitar and theory. George is regularly engaged as a soloist and chamber musician with the NYC-based Ensemble Music Humana, Sinfonia Spirituosa in California, and as guitarist with the Cantanti Project. Currently, George is faculty in guitar and musicianship at the esteemed Diller-Quaile School of Music, in Greenwich Village, Brooklyn Guitar School, and founded the Sacramento Guitar Institute. George holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University.

    His performances will include a unique set of works on theorbo and nineteenth century guitar by composers such as Kapsberger, Hurel, Coste, Sor, and others. More information may be found at: wwww.GeorgeEngland.com

  • Second Winter Guitar Series Concert – Cameron O’Connor

    Saturday January 18th 2020 3 – 4 pm
    Venue: Corvallis-Benton County Library
    Free & Open to the Public

    Dr. Cameron O’Connor runs the guitar program at OSU and we are very lucky to have Cameron, a truly great classical guitarist and composer, to perform concerts for us in this neck of the woods. He is a prizewinner in many international competitions, including the Frances Walton and Tokyo International Guitar Competition and continues to receive awards for performances and compositions in an ongoing basis. His playing has been featured in films, including James Franco’s Don Quixote and Scott Tennant’s instructional classic Pumping Nylon, and his performances have been featured on Seattle’s Classical 98.1 KingFM, Portland All-Classical, American Public Media’s Performance Today, and KPFK’s Global Village.

    For this Winter Concert he has a wonderful program lined up for us to enjoy as follows:
