Dear Guitar Friends, Happy New Year!

THE NEXT GUITAR SOCIETY MEETING IS MONDAY, January 7th 7-9PM

Venue: Odd Fellows Hall, Corvallis

Free & Open to the Public

We kick off the New Year with the first Guitar Society meeting of 2019 welcoming Oregonian DAVID TUTMARK as our featured artist. David is a classical guitarist actively performing in the Pacific Northwest and is known for his visceral yet polished style of playing, and consistently delivers captivating performances of traditional and contemporary classical guitar.  

Coming from a background in electric guitar and rock, David began studying classical guitar at Portland State University.  After earning a Bachelor’s degree in classical guitar performance from PSU, David began a busy performance career, giving over 300 performances between 2012-2015 alone.  Today David continues to maintain a busy schedule as a performer and teacher of guitar.

The January 7th meeting will also include a GUITAR ENSEMBLE SESSION which, following the wonderful Winter concert, will feature new music that is posted to the website. Check out the scores online, download the parts you would like to play and bring them along to the meeting with your guitar and join in! The 2nd Guitar Society Winter Concert Sunday January 13th, 3-4pm

The Oregon Guitar Quartet!

Venue: Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, Corvallis

Free & Open to the Public

The critically acclaimed Oregon Guitar Quartet is an ensemble of four of the finest classical guitarists residing in Portland, Oregon. The group’s members Mario Diaz, John Mery, Jesse McCann and Bryan Johanson have been performing and recording together for nearly a decade. Their 2010 debut album Something Wondrous Fair was met with outstanding approval. Their concert programs constantly change and feature some of the most exciting and often daring arrangements for guitar quartet. Their literature spans the centuries and includes original compositions by fellow member and internationally renowned composer Bryan Johanson.

Local classical guitar maestro Cameron O’Connor will be joining together with Ashland’s James Bishop-Edwards to deliver a fabulous combination of solo and duet performances. The music will range from the 16th to modern 20th century arrangements for classical style guitars. Early music will also be performed on vihuelas, a guitar-shaped string instrument from 15th- and 16th-century developed by Spanish musicians as an instrument on which to perform polyphonic music. Expect a combination of wonderful music and historical insight.

FLAMENCO PACIFICO RETURN TO THE MAJESTIC THEATER

The PNW’s premiere Flamenco music & dance ensemble led by maestro Berto Boyd returns to the Majestic to take listeners on a journey through a musical landscape that can be haunting and deeply moving, due in no small part to the spine-tingling duende, or trance-like spirit unleashed by the music. The event will also feature inspired dancing by Elena Villa and Melissa Cruz, the passionate vocals and guitar artistry of guitarist/singer Grant Ruiz, and driving rhythms by dynamic percussionist Terry Longshore, Flamenco Pacifico takes audiences on an unforgettable journey into the fascinating world of flamenco.

The Opening Corvallis Guitar Society Winter Concert, this Saturday December 15th, 3-4pm at Corvallis-Benton County Library

 “Bringing Local Guitarists out of the Woodwork”

As we approach the end of the year, the grand finale for 2018 will be the opening Winter Guitar Series Concert at the Corvallis-Benton County Library this Saturday December 15th from 3- 4pm featuring the Corvallis Guitar Society Group Ensemble along with solos and duets from Guitar Society members. The concert takes in music from all over the world and from many different musical eras. Traditional melodies, folk songs, and carols are included and the ensemble will be performing the world premier of two Catalonian carols arranged for the Guitar Society by Oregonian composer Jason Heald.

Entrance is FREE and open to the public.
