Bringing Local Guitarists Out of the Woodwork

  • Our next Guitar Society Meeting is on Monday January 8th, 2024 (second Monday of the month) at Odd Fellows Hall and will begin at 7:15 pm
  • Travis Johnson is our Featured Artists for January 8th – He has a Master’s Degree in Music, and teaches in Portland, Oregon; between his teaching practice and his new business, Travis enjoys songwriting, composing, and playing music with his friends 😊
  • Isaac Engel will be running the Ensemble Session; the music scores are available (see below) and any one of you are delighted to join in and play.
  • The Open Stage is an opportunity for anyone to play classical guitar music – beginners, intermediate, and advanced!
  • The After School Guitar Program is continuing group lessons and private lessons at Odd Fellows on Monday January 8th at 6:00pm run by Isaac Engel.
  • The second After School Guitar Program is on Monday January 15th at 6:00pm run by Jacob Ripley, and he also provides The Community Beginning Lesson for people of all ages from 7:00pm to 7:30pm at Odd Fellows.

Featured Artist Travis Johnson

Travis Johnson

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Travis studied acoustic and fingerstyle guitar from a young age. He performed with local and regional orchestras, competed regionally and nationally, and recorded his first album by the time he was 13.
With a generous scholarship from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, he holds Bachelor of Music Performance degree with Honors in Musicianship from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and a Master of Music Performance degree from The University of Texas at Austin.
Since 2017, Travis has been teaching music lessons back home in Portland, Oregon. In 2021, he started to design and build an instrument support device that is now the AUX Instrument Support. Between his teaching practice and his new business, Travis enjoys songwriting, composing, and playing music with his friends.

Open Guitar Ensemble
Isaac Engel is running the Open Guitar Ensemble in which anyone is welcome to participate. When you look at the pieces, decide which part you wish to play, and maybe let Isaac know ahead of time – his email is [email protected] , and bring the music with you to the Guitar Society meeting.

Open Stage
The Open Stage at the Corvallis Guitar Society monthly meeting is available for anyone to play their own music featuring beginner, intermediate, and advanced 😊

    Jacob Ripley and Isaac Engel are continuing the After School Guitar Program free and open to the public. Focusing on mid and high school students, the goal is to raise their awareness and understanding of the guitar instrument by featuring group lessons, private lessons and ensemble music.

    Jacob also provides Community Beginning Lesson for people of all ages, so anyone can come for this lesson.

    Feel free to come along and meet up with Jacob and Isaac at their sessions if you are interested, and if you don’t have a guitar, we can lend you one!

    • The second After School Guitar Program is on Monday December 18th at 6:00pm run by Jacob Ripley, and he also provides The Community Beginning Lesson for people of all ages from 7:00pm to 7:30pm at Odd Fellows.
    • Cameron O’Conner is running the OSU Guitar Ensemble Concert at 7pm at the Community Hall Room 303 on December 6th. This is available to any of you for free 😊

    Featured Artists James Bishop Edwards and Andrew Ehrlich

    James Bishop Edwards

    James Bishop-Edwards has been a performer, teacher, composer and recording artist for over 35 years.  He plays not only the rich and varied traditional repertoire, but also his own compositions and contemporary genres as well.  James plays historical instruments of the Renaissance and Baroque periods such as the five-course guitar and eight-course lute.  He was head of the Guitar Department at Southern Oregon University in Ashland for several years, and previously on the faculty as Guitar Instructor at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo. James has over twenty recordings to his credit, which feature his arrangements of American and European classics.  He has also worked in duo with vocalists, flutists, violinists, etc. and in collaboration with theatre and dance companies as composer/performer. James’ current activities include composing new works for guitar, collaborative concerts with various ensembles, and working on a historical compendium of American guitar music.
